The Spanish soprano Pilar Lorengar (1928-1996) graced the world’s operatic stages with her bright, gleaming voice and captivating presence in a wide variety of roles, particularly the heroines of Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, and Puccini. This DVD tribute presents Lorengar in a live 1988 recital in her native city of Zaragoza, with Miguel Zanetti at the piano, plus bonus selections: performances of arias from opera films of Così fan tutte, Lohengrin, Manon Lescaut, and Don Carlo; and live performances of the Libera me” section of the Verdi Requiem and the Zarzuela aria “Canción de la Paloma” from El Barberillo de Lavapies. 110 min., Color, mono, All regions.
