Leopold Stokowski
VAI DVD 4408, $19.95

One of the most important conductors of the twentieth century in two live performances from 1969. Stokowski leads the Orchestra Giovanile Internazionale — the International Youth Orchestra, St. Moritz — during its premiere season in a stirring performance of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. This is preceded by Stokowski’s singular interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture-Fantasy, performed by the Orchestra della Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana and featuring a newly-discovered stereo soundtrack. Black & White, 53 minutes.
