Few singers have plumbed the depths of the demanding role of Violetta in La Traviata as did the incomparable Renata Scotto. In this live 1973 performance from Japan, Scotto is partnered by one of the great tenors of our time, José Carreras, then at the very start of his international career. Baritone Sesto Bruscantini is a formidable Germont; he is especially moving in the famous aria “Di Provenza il mar.” The NHK Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Nino Verchi.
Embedded Japanese subtitles remain on screen throughout, with additional options to view subtitles in English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
